Keira Knightley with her breasts enhanced for the film King Arthur

According to the Huffington Post, Keira Knightley refused to enhance the size of her breasts in advertising and marketing images for the film The Dutchess. Apparently, this is not the first time Hollywood has taken issue with her her small breasts.

Keira Knightley received a lot of critical flack for having her breasts enhanced for the film King Arthur in 2004.According to Daily Mail, “She has insisted that her figure stay in its natural state, an insider said. “She is proud of her body and doesn’t want it altered.”

In case you forgot, Keira sued Daily Mail earlier last year for running an article on a young girl that died from Anorexia–an article that was illustrated with a photo of Keira Knightley’s bikini-clad thin frame.
Although Keira put her foot down and demanded that this not be done, she has once again called too much attention to her emaciated frame. I agree that Keira Knightley is too skinny, but what message is Hollywood sending when their ONLY suggestion is to make her breasts bigger–as if enlarging breasts on a tiny body is going to solve the problem. I know sex sells, and I’m in no way shocked that this is what the business people for The Dutchess wanted, but couldn’t they have come up with something better? Can’t a little bit of shading with make-up help? This is what they did for her in Pirates, and she actually looked a little busty in that tight dress.
Hollywood is pretty much sending the message that it’s OK to be extremely skinny, as long as its accompanied by big boobs. It’s pretty hard to be as skinny as Keira. But it’s even harder to have her body type with a double D bra size. Why they didn’t ask her to gain a little weight all around is beyond me. That would give her a little bit of junk in the trunk with little balloons in the front and possibly even put all those anorexia rumors to rest (Although I wouldn’t have any proof whether or not she’s anorexic–she’s been skinny since I first saw her in Bend it Like Bekham).
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a huge fan of her potty mouth, overly toothy grin and obnoxious voice, but alas, she’s the representative for all of us flat-chested/smaller breasted girls out there. I never understood the craze over huge breasts–they are just saggy pieces of fat and tissue that will only sag more as you get older. Many big-chested girls I know compain that their large breasts make them look/feel overweight, give them back pain, and give them unhappy homes to unsightly stretch marks. At times I do wish I was bigger, but I like mine just the way they are. Associating sheer breast size with sexiness and beauty is for amateurs. There are so many intricacies to breasts. For instance, I think shape is far more important than size. Round ones, in my opinion, regardless of size, are much more attractive than torpedo shaped boobs. Since my coworkers just might be reading this I’m not going to go into this in detail, but suffice it to say, true men know the beauty of variety and can appreciate proportion. “Ideal” breast size depends on several factors and should really complement body type and size. Big boobs on Keira would just look gross. Congrats to Keira for standing up for herself.
