President Elect Barack Obama will be 44th President of the United States

barack-obamaHe did it. He won. No prayer beads of mine were necessary. Although I give America all the credit in the world, there’s no way this could have happened four years ago and there were some critical factors that helped Obama win this year:

Bad economy: When the economy is really bad (near depression), people tend to turn to the opposite party for hope. This year, that political party happened to be the democrats, thus Obama was the favorable candidate when it came to issues relating to the economy.

SNL: SNL helped illuminate just how ignorant, inexperienced and unprepared Sarah Palin really is, making it clear that there is no way she could efficiently govern this country.

Marketing/Campaigning Strategy: Barack Obama and his team have been able to run one of the most successful political campaigns in history. The Obama campaign was not only able to raise way more money than the McCain by allowing donators to give as little as $5 to the cause (whereas the McCain campaign set a minimum donation cap at around $2,000, limiting who and how often someone could donate money), but Obama’s campaign also refrained from partaking in a lot of the hateful messaging and ads that the McCain camp was using to gain votes. The few road bumps of negative press that came Obama’s were handled promptly, appropriately and with stride.

In addition to clever fundraising, Obama’s team spread the word and his message through social media avenues like facebook, which kept interested people up to date on events, breaking news and other developments.

George Bush and the War: Let’s face it. The American people are overwhelmingly fed up with the war on “terror.” Voting for McCain would ensure that the war will go on indefinitely, perhaps until McCain is satisfied with the outcome…whatever that means. Obama has stated very clearly that he wants to end the war and bring the troops back home.

Hope and Optimism: Desperate times often leave people lacking hope. Obama brought a sense of hope to America with his economic plan and his view on race. Rather than complaining about racism in America, Obama focused on how to move forward, and always mentioned how far this country has already come.
